In 1880, Mary McMillan was considered the first physiotherapist in the United States. In Canada, the first course in physiotherapy was offered in 1917. In 1954, the school of rehabilitation at the Université de Montréal was founded by Dr. Gingras. This course was subsequently offered at McGill University, the Université de Laval in Quebec City followed by the University of Ottawa. While physiotherapy and occupational therapy were taught within the same program, these complementary professions were considered separate disciplines by the 1980s, to provide patients with different, yet complementary approaches to rehabilitation.
" Les Cliniques de Readaptation Universelle ™" have offered professional care services since 1982. The excellent quality of the services provided and the results obtained have enabled the company to expand their network of clinics, with 14 branches operating in the Montreal area.
To maintain their position as a leader in the field of rehabilitation, the clinics evolved by adapting their approaches and treatment methods to emerging and new realities. More than 20 years later, the company decided to change its name to reflect this growth and the variety of services offered.
The company now operates under the name " Les Cliniques de Readaptation Universelle ™" .
